Furgenics Deshedding Shampoo is a 16:1 concentrate built for heavy double-coated breeds — Huskies, German Shepherds, Goldens, Labs, Akitas, Malamutes, Samoyeds, and the rest of the salon-volume undercoat shedders. Hydrolyzed keratin and safflower oil penetrate the undercoat, release dead hair on the rinse, and condition the topcoat. One gallon yields up to 17 working gallons per bottle at professional dilution — roughly the cost of a cup of coffee per working gallon at pro dilution.

Dilution and professional protocol
  1. Pre-blow with a high-velocity dryer for 5–8 minutes before water. Most loose undercoat comes out dry; the shampoo handles the next layer that's still attached. Skipping the pre-blow doubles the bath time.
  2. Saturate the coat completely with warm water. On a Husky, expect 3–5 minutes to fully wet down to the skin.
  3. Dilute at 16:1 concentrate in a mixing bottle — or use ready-to-use for heavy soiling. For a heavy seasonal blowout, a stronger 12:1 first pass releases more undercoat; follow with the standard ratio on the second pass.
  4. Massage 4–5 minutes, longer than a routine wash. Hydrolyzed keratin needs contact time to bond with the hair shaft and release the loose undercoat.
  5. Rinse 5–7 minutes minimum — water should run completely clear. Retained shampoo plus dead undercoat mats during the blow-out.
  6. Follow with Furgenics Deshedding Conditioner ($34.99) at 16:1 concentrate, leave 2–3 minutes, rinse fully.
  7. HV dry while continuing to release undercoat. Work the nozzle close to skin, against the lay of the coat. Expect another 1–2 cups of dead undercoat on a heavy seasonal blowout.

Ingredients and safety

Hydrolyzed keratin is the central chemistry. The protein fragments are small enough to penetrate the hair cuticle and bond with damaged sections — which both reinforces healthy hair and helps loose undercoat detach cleanly during the rinse. A deshedding shampoo without hydrolyzed protein is essentially a regular shampoo with a different label; the protein is what does the work.

Safflower oil pairs in as the conditioning agent. Light enough to condition the topcoat without weighing down the undercoat. Heavier oils like coconut or shea work well on curly coats but produce drag on a Husky's plush undercoat or a GSD's coarse topcoat — safflower stays out of the way.

Safety: the base is paraben-free, pH-balanced for dog skin, and tearless. Double coats need their natural oils to stay weather-resistant; over-stripping produces a soft, greasy-feeling coat that owners notice immediately. The base cleans aggressively enough for production salon use without strip-cleaning the protective layer. Suitable for puppies and senior dogs; as with any new shampoo, patch-test a small area first.
